Fremont (/ˈfɹiˌmɑnt/ or /fɹəˈmɑnt/), officially the Republic of Fremont, is a state located in the West and Pacific regions of the United States. With 76.7 million citizens across a total area of about 1,425,771 miles (3,692,730 km2), Fremont is the largest U.S. state by area and the second most populous behind Dixie. Fremont consists of a mainland portion, an Alaskan exclave and the Hawaiian isles. Mainland Fremont is bordered to the north by Canada, to the south by Mexico, to the west by the Pacific Ocean, and to the east by Dixie and Superior, while Alaska's sole neighbor is Canada. Fremont also shares maritime borders with Russia in Alaska.

Fremont is heavily urbanized and home to global trendsetting industries, including Hollywood for entertainment and Silicon Valley for information technology. Fremont's economy, worth $5.09 trillion in 2020, comprises the largest gross state product in the United States and the largest sub-national economy in the world. As a country, Fremont would have the third-largest economy in the world. Los Angeles is the largest city in Fremont and the second-largest city in the United States, while Greater Los Angeles is Fremont's largest metropolitan area. Other major cities in Fremont include San Francisco, San Diego, Seattle and Phoenix. The state capital is Fremont.

Before the arrival of European settlers, Fremont was home to a large number of Native American, Native Hawaiian and Alaska Native groups. Most of Mainland Fremont was first colonized by Spain and administered as part of the Viceroyalty of New Spain, before its acquisition in the Mexican Cession following the Mexican-American War. The northern border was disputed with the United Kingdom until the Oregon Treaty established the 49th parallel as the border. Alaska became part of the United States in 1867 following its purchase from Russia. Hawaii, which was an independent kingdom, was overthrown and annexed by the United States in 1893. The eleven states that now comprise Fremont were then amalgamated on January 20, 2021 to form the Republic of Fremont.

Fremont is known for its diverse geography, which includes both the highest (Denali) and lowest (Badwater Basin) points in the United States. The state also boasts a great diversity of climates, from the Arctic tundra of Northern Alaska to the Mediterranean climate of Southern California and the tropical conditions in Hawaii. Major industries of Fremont include fishing, logging, financial services, information technology, entertainment and agriculture.

Etymology

Fremont is named for John C. Frémont, a 19th century American explorer, military officer and statesman. Frémont was an important figure in the history of Fremont, having served as Military Governor and U.S. Senator from California and as Territorial Governor of Arizona. Frémont also led several expeditions along the Oregon Trail to survey large areas of the American West and played a pivotal role in the formation of the California Republic during the Mexican–American War. After the war, he became wealthy from the purchase of a gold ranch near Yosemite during the California Gold Rush.

In the leadup to the American Civil War, Frémont became a vocal advocate for abolition and became the first presidential candidate of the newly established Republican Party during the 1856 presidential election. He obtained 114 electoral votes and carried eleven states, finishing behind eventual Democratic victor James Buchanan. After the outbreak of the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln appointed Frémont as a major-general in the Union Army and assigned him to the command of the Department of the West, which includes large swaths of modern Fremont. After a series of disputes, especially after Frémont ordered that slaves in his command area be freed against Lincoln's wishes, he was relieved of command and eventually resigned his commission.

History

First canon (2014-2018)

From its establishment until 2018, the state retained its original name of Western. The last governor of Western was ClearlyInvsible. In 2018, Western State was reorganized into the State of Sierra.

Second canon (2018-2020)

From 2018, the Western State had the same borders as the contemporary Republic of Fremont. After 2019, the state was officially known as the State of Sierra. The state was governed by the Constitution of California until 2020, when a Sierra State Constitution was enacted by the General Assembly. The capital of Sierra was Sacramento until 2020, when it was relocated to Salem, Oregon.

Sierra was politically known for its status as a swing state, serving as the tipping-point state in all but one presidential election. However, this competitive nature did not extend to gubernatorial elections, as the Democratic Party won every executive contest in the state's history. The first governor of Sierra was ClearlyInvsible and the last governor was HurricaneofLies.

In 2021, the State of Sierra was reorganized into it’s current form as the Republic of Fremont (colloquially known as Fremont State). Whereas the name “Western State” is still sometimes used for the modern Fremont State as a nickname, the name “Sierra” is very rarely used in modern times.

Current canon (2020-)

According to the Third Canon (also known as the 2020s Canon), Fremont was established, along with the other 4 states, in late 2020 during the Great Reorganization of the United States of America.

Fremont was historically a strong Democrat state and is known for it’s high population, high cost of living, and being the only state in the Union to have non-contiguous territories (Hawai’i and Alaska).

Fremont’s historic Democratic administration was broken by the 4th Governor of Fremont, Michael D Grant, who led the first Republican administration in Fremont since the state’s creation in 2020. He ran for re-election to a second term but was defeated in June 2023 by ModelAinin (also known as HurricaneOfLies), the 1st and 5th Governor of the state.
